A Case of Diffues Esophageal Spams Associated with Lung Cancer

Abstract
Diffuse Esophageal Spasm(DES) is an uncommon motility disorder that is primarily a diagnosis made on the basis of manometric findings in the appropriate clinical setting. Chest pain and dysphagia are the major symptoms in patients with DES. The
symptoms
vary from mild to severe and typically intermittent. Authors experienced a rare case of diffuse esophageal spasm associated with lung cancer.
A 66 year-old male patient was admitted to department of internal medicine in Chonbuk National University Hospital who has complaining of swallowing difficulty and chest pain for 2 months. Bronchoscopic biopsy revealed squamous cell carcinoma of
the
lung. In esophageal monametric study, frequent simultaneous contraction and high amplitude contraction with long duration of the esophageal body but relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter during swallowing were shown.
Authors present the clinical and manometric features of DES associated with lung cancer with an extensive review of literatures.
